Amritsar (Rural) Police have reached Dibrugarh in Assam to formally arrest Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh in connection with Ajnala police station attack case.

He is likely to be arrested on April 23 after the expiry of his detention period under the National Security Act (NSA).

His associates Papalpreet Singh, Daljit Singh Kalsi, Kulwant Singh, Varinder Johal, Gurmeet Singh Bukhhanwala, his uncle Harjit Singh, Basant Singh, Gurinder Singh Aujla, and Bhagwant Singh — were also earlier detained under the NSA and other charges. However, they were shifted to Punjab last year and are currently facing trial at the Ajnala sub-divisional court.

Amritpal Singh has been lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail since April 23, 2023, following his detention under the NSA.

Two days ago, the Punjab and Haryana High Court allowed the state government to keep him in Dibrugarh jail even after the expiry of his NSA detention, once he is formally arrested in the Ajnala case.
